I have been going to this restaurant for a year and I just had it today. The girls at the window are rude and every time I go they take care of men before any lady present even if she got there first. They flirt with the men to get higher tips it is so obvious. Today Milagros was saying that she was tired of working there and ready to go home out loud (10AM) then a gentleman order 2 pastries and she put them in one bag he asked nicely if she could put them in separate bags and she gave him a look that if looks would kill he will be dead. I am sure nothing will be done i seriously doubt manager or owner speaks English. In America it's common courtesy to acknowledge all your customers when they arrive even if you are busy ! Inside is a little better with the exception of customer service again, a waitress spilled my orange juice at the table she brought a new one but CHARGED me again!! No comp! Hell will freeze before you will be comp even if it's their fault. I honesty will give them a negative review.

This place consistently serves hot delicious food at a great price and great service. And when it comes to Cuban food I should be a great critic as I am full-blooded Cuban,

Cafe con leche is always great. Prompt service. I have found the Cuban sandwich to be hit or miss but steak sandwich is always good. It is one of the two Cuban places I frequent in broward

Thanksgiving afternoon. We didn't cook and we wanted to go out...it took a a while until we found this place but for sure we will come back. I had the grilled snapper fillet with moros and sweet plantains. Geat and very well done!

I always get the "al ajillo"....which is shrimp in garlic sauce and it comes with white rice and plantains and I usually order a small side black beans. The service is good and pretty fast. The food is very good.

Hardly the same La Carreta as Bird and 82nd in Miami. Dead at 10pm and no casual counter service. Instead they went classic restaurant with a bar and dining room. Cold bread and lukewarm ajiaco still better than Chili's or Friday's. But could be so much better.

I love eating here. The food is great, prices and portions are also great. I always ask for the guy waiter. His name is John. Because the women waitresses are what we call "pesada" so I don't like them to ruin my good time with their attitudes and gossiping. The lady that pours the water is also very sweet.

So maybe we ordered the wrong food ... or maybe I just expected too much b/c my other experiences with Cuban food in the South Florida area were very good, a Miami Yelper recommended the place for my Hollywood Beach trip, and the reviews seemed to be generally positive. La Carreta does have 7 locations, incl. a cafeteria at the Miami Airport on Concourse D - I've been there twice and the food was great. I would've never known except for the recommendation from the Crown Room Club manager there. We went to the Pembroke Pines location for lunch last Sunday, and I ordered the "Grilled Palomilla Steak" w/ white rice, black beans, & plantains for $10.95. The steak had no flavor so I dipped each piece in my dad's mojito sauce to add some kick. The side of fresh onions & parsley also added some needed kick. Honestly the rice had the most flavor - I think psychologically b/c I expected the rice to be the most plain. Mom ordered the "Grilled Chicken Breast" w/ yellow rice & fresh vegetables for $8.95. I had asked the server for the "Pollo A La Plancha" b/c it was a Yelp-recommended dish, and she pointed to the translated "grilled chicken breast". The chicken turned out to be bland and besides the yellow rice, did not taste like a Cuban dish at all. Dad wanted something small so he ordered the "Fish Sandwich" w/ plantain chips for $6.75. The server also brought a mojito sauce for the plantain chips (which I used for the steak). The fish was pretty good when it first came out b/c it was hot & fresh, except later it tasted pretty bland like the rest of our dishes. Check out my photos, too. However, kudos for the generous portions and reasonable prices. Our server was very nice, and very patient to explain all the dishes ... even walking my dad to the restroom instead of just pointing him in the right direction like most other places. Would I come here again - probably not. But I'd definitely visit the Miami airport location if I were there for a layover.

La Carreta is our favorite overall Cuban restaurant in South Florida. While many other places are very good, La Carreta has the best overall menu, service, and value. I always seemed to get one of the "Cuban Samplers" but everything I've ever had has been well-prepared. We also hit the Sunday brunch a couple of times, which was fun.

Love coming here for cuban coffee n pastries to go! Ropa vieja here and plantains are awesome. Took off one star for service, inconsistent but honestly it doesn't matter I will continue to come here. Open at great hours, the window is super convenient but expect to wait about 10 min for your carry out/Togo window order!

Good lil restaurant. Love me some Cuban food. Honey took me there for my birthday. I had yellow rice and fish chunks. Very delicious! The only bad thing is NO ALCOHOL!!

Cuban food is my addiction of choice right now lol. Myself and some friends went here to gorge ourselfs on Cuban food which is excatly what happened. It was packed full on the Friday that we went, but the service was still fast and efficent. Everything from the croquetts to my main dish were all on point and there was so much food I felt like to needed to be wheeled out of there in a wheel barrow. Def recommend this place if your interested in some really good Cuban food.

Just moved to Florida about two weeks ago and this was the first restaurant I went to eat and let me tell you....it was amazing!! So good I went the next day for dinner... Proces are cheap, at least from what I'm used to at New York restaurants the pricing here was amazing. The first time I had a churrasco with their moro y maduros and it was amazing. The best churrasco I have ever had, and let me tell you I've had a lot of churrasco in my day. The dipping sauce (I guess you would call it) is really good one of the better ones that I have tasted. The second time around I had rope vieja which was also good, not the best rope vieja I've had but it was still good. One downer to this place is that they keep the air conditioning on what seems like the lowest setting and it becomes soo cold when it isn't packed with people. Makes for an uncomfortable eating if you do not have a sweater on you. The service is nothing spectacular but then again when eating their churrasco I do not really want to be bothered while I'm in heaven. I cannot wait to visit again to have some more churrasco!!

Can't believe I hadn't written a review for La Carreta. I was introduced to this place by one of my best friends. We both love coffee so, she told me about their Coladas. I had heard of this, never had one. One day I go visit her and make a stop here. We order the colada... I loved it. Couple of times more I went to her house, my routine would be stopping at La Carreta for Colada and some pastries (which are really good) or a piece of rum cake. Fast forward 1 or 2 years, another friend moved to Pembroke Pines. Helping her move in, on a Sunday we needed a much deserved break so we decided to do brunch at La Carreta. That day you could either order form the menu or do the buffet. We did the last option and we were not disappointed. We were seated fast, service was good, so was the food and the buffet selection was wide. Need to plan another "colada run" soon.

Cannot come to miami and not eat Cuban food. La Carreta is a Cuban classic staple. Good service for 9, food was really good, reasonable prices.

My boyfriend and I wanted Cuban food and we were in the area so we went here for the first time the other day. We both had the steak palomilla which was very good. Very good cuts of meat and not dry at all. The beans were awesome and so were the plantains. The service was a little bit slow when we first walked in, it took them awhile to notice us and to take our drink orders. Normally when this happens in restaurants, my boyfriend gets very frustrated and we leave after 10 minutes or so. But we gave them 10 minutes and they finally showed up. I'd go back here.

I was DYING for Cuban food and we were a few blocks away, so we tried it. The food was decent and the service was A+, but there were flies everywhere! When we approached the waitress she said "when the customers walk in the front door, they bring the flies from outside with them". I have never been blamed for a restaurants filth before, but thought this was an interesting way to explain the issue. I don't know if I'll be back, it's also not the closest, but it filled a want for vaca frita, maduros, tostones con mojo and yuca frita.

When I visit South Florida, Cuban food is always at the top of my list of vacation plans. I have been to La Carreta twice, both times with a large-ish group of family members. I love the food and think it has a great atmosphere. It's very reasonably priced - both visits I've been able to treat my cousins and extended family, even on my grad student income. Now I look forward to a visit here every time I come down! For those of you who actually live in the area, you've got lots of opportunities to eat Cuban food and know the deal. For me, visiting from the frozen tundra of the Mid-Atlantic, the flavors are very different from my usual restaurant fare. The first time I visited, we ordered several appetizers so we could try a range of foods. I really enjoyed the fried yucca (it comes with a great, bright sauce) and tamales. I am not a big fan of croquettes, but my cousins enjoyed them. And my absoute favorite part of the meal is the fried sweet plantains. I know, I know - if you live here, you're thinking "what's the big deal?" But if you're visiting from out of the area, you need to try them. They are so amazingly delicious. For entrees, I have tried both the ropa vieja and the fried pork chunks. Of the two, the pork was my favorite - the pork was flavorful and not greasy at all. I'm not a fan of black beans and rice so I've always ordered mine with yellow rice. One of my cousins is a rice aficionado (seriously, the girl could write a book) and she LOVES the rice here. If you are going to trust anyone's advice on this topic, it should be hers. After these two visits with so many family members I think I can safely say we have tried almost all of the desserts and pronounced them excellent. My favorite is the Cuban flan, it has a great, creamy texture. My aunt tried a custard called natilla, she really enjoyed it. The key lime pie is very good (again, if you're a local you're not surprised - but if you're from out of town, enjoy it!).

La Carretta's food and service is pretty good. The interior of this restaurant have an old Havana look and feel to them. One big plus is you do not have the rowdy, loud, uncouth crowds you see in quite a few of the cuban restaurants in miami. I give it a thumbs up!

  • Sherry S.

The roasted pork is amazing! The super moist meat is served with a few big chunks of crunchy pork cracklings. Nothing like pork garnished with more pork! It's so good that I crave it constantly until I get my fix again! the portions are huge so I always have some left over for lunch the next day. The service is great. They always accommodate our large, noisy late night group even though we always forget to make a reservation.

Great food!! Mmm...I love me some Cuban food. It's delicious! Everything on the menu is good! I like having the pollo a la plancha with white rice and beans with thier fried yuca. Thier mojo is really good, not too much garlic. There shakes are yummy! I personally like thier chocolate shake. I think they use ice cream which makes it even better. The staff was very nice and the food came out fast!

I do love Cuban food, and there is a location of La Carreta right by the office, so it's great for a Cuban food fix. The restaurant is large, clean, and has good service. I visited here 4 times and have had a variety of food on the menu. They have a nice variety of Cuban sandwich variations and traditional CubN fare. The sampler plate had a nice variety, Cuban garlic bread is good, and the ropa vieja was enjoyable. I had mixed feelings for the pollo con ajillo (chicken with garlic sauce). It was under seasoned. The plantain chips suffered from the same unsalty taste. I like the Carreta sammich - basically a Cuban with Spanish chorizo. I enjoy most everything and they do a decent job. I don't dream of their food, but it is a place I will continue to visit for a Cuban food fix. The good? Decent renditions of most Cuban favorites worth trying and some nice takes on traditional food The bad? Some dishes are under seasoned Overall, it's worth a try!

My mom decided to take us here after picking up my sister's dress. The service was quick. The two waitresses smiled every time they brought the dishes. :) We first started with lentil soup, which felt good to the tummy. Then, we continued with sharing the palomilla steak with white rice and beans and sweet plantains. I'm happy that they had olive oil, vinegar and lime available so that I didn't have to settle on any creamy dressing. Then, we finished it off with cafe con leche.

We were in Pembroke Pines for a few days, and I was in the mood for Cuban food for lunch one day. My favorite dining girl and I had been to La Carreta a number of years ago, on a previous trip to FL, so we went back, since it was nearby. Overall, it was average. The fried yuca sticks were good (the garlic aioli sauce is what gives it taste), but I was really disappointed by my Cuban sandwich. I've had way better in NY, which is about 1500 miles farther from Cuba than this place is. The meat was dry, the bread was plain, not enough pickles or sauce on it. Meh, I've had better. My wife's grilled dolphin on salad was good. If we're ever in the area again, we'll find another Cuban place.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I go there just about once a month. The weekends are usually very packed, but the wait is never that long to get seated. The food is delicious and inexpensive. I love the Deep Friend Chicken chunks (which isn't deep fried at all to me) and the Moros rice. For dessert I always get their Tres Leche Cake.. yummy! I had a Long Island Ice tea that was very good also

Definitely a good breakfast buffet, totally worth the moderate price. Lunch and dinner are both delicious off the menu. Food gets cooked as requested and service is prompt. Yes, they speak english! I've ordered their holiday meals to take out and they are quite a value.

I must admit this restaurant is one of my guilty pleasures. There is nothing special about it except that their menu is varied, their dishes authentic and their seasoning spot on to an every-day home cooked meal. Every-day being the operative word. This is a place I go to when I want to feel relaxed, I don't want to read a menu and I just want a very simple dinner which usually consists of a green salad, breaded chicken breast, moros, yuca con mojo and some fried plantains. Sometimes the chicken is a little dry, but that happens. I do avoid their croquetas because they tend to be too doughy or pasty. I appreciate the family atmosphere and the good service. I always leave satisfied and feeling better than when I walked in.

Came here for breakfast. We ordered cafe con leche. Apparently they pre-prepare the cafe con leche in a pitcher so you cant prepare it yourself like in other Cuban establishments where they bring you the hot milk and you add your own coffee. I thought it was weird but it tasted ok. I ordered the pan con tortilla (bread with egg omelet) with sliced tomatoes and my sandwich was perfectly done. My mom and sisters ordered breakfast special and they were happy with their meal. The waitress was a little slow I should have told her we were a little on the hurry side since we had to be somewhere else soon. Regardless the food was good and this place is huge with lots of parking.

I was craving Cuban Food today so I stopped in this location for the first time. There were people hanging out outside drinking coffee and chatting which was a plus for me since it is a local place. I don't know what the fuss is all about regarding the food.. I ordered the 1/4 chicken lunch special. What I liked was that the food was bought on separate plates. One plate for the chicken with a gravy on top. Another plate for the plantains and rice and a cup for the black beans. The chicken was tasty but i thought the food was average and nothing to make a special trip for. Did not like the plantains as they appeared to be deep fried and were very greasy. The beans were lukewarm rather than hot. They gave plenty of rice so you may want to divide in half if you are watching your carbs or don't want to fall asleep after lunch. No siestas in Florida. The breakfast menu looks interesting and when I was leaving I saw a cool looking pie and asked what is was and was told it was an omelet. Would come back to try the breakfast.

Don't do it. I ordered the Cuban fried 1/4 chicken...so DRY! I asked for dark & got white meat. Asked for chimichurri sauce 3 times & gave up. It wasn't even crowded! I'm sticking with Las Vegas...waaay better!

This La Carreta has been disappointing me lately, so I went elsewhere for my Cuban fix. I tried to give it a chance, but apparently the quality has consistently failed the last few times I was there. My bistec empanizado tastes like nothing, and the tostones are super greasy, and the service is slow and forgetful. Not all La Carretas are created equal, so by all means, experiment. I am just disappointed that this one used to be a chill place to hang and get a nice decent Cuban meal and now it tastes like fast food. Being Cuban, I am very picky with my bistec empanizado, so after having 3 failed attempts at it here, I just wanna say "no me gusta." Sorry La Carreta on Pines and University. We have to break up..

  • Alejandra M.

Not my favorite place, but they do have a nice lunch selection and a weekend breakfast buffet which is rare at a hispanic cuban style place. I hate the fact that in the mornings this place is packed and the service is not all that great. They need to have a better way of organizing themselves here.

    (3)
  • Josie W.

My family has been going here for years. The food is great and you can't beat the price for the quality or the amount you get (which is a good-sized portion). Ask for Alberto or Genie (the best servers there in our opinion). The restaurant is clean and the atmosphere is relaxing. I can't think of any dish I wouldn't recommend. The sangria is great and the desserts are delicious.

I had only had Cuban food a couple other times so I decided to try the sampler. Overall I was happy with the food. Portion was large and fresh. Service was decent even during a busy lunch rush.

  • Immer R.

The breakfast buffet on the weekends can't be beat ($8.95). All of your cuban favorites (croquetas, pan cubano, cafe con leche, etc..) to gorge on. Service is speedy. Most locations are open late...I'm not quite sure about this one.

My first time experience was pretty good. Decent service and the food arrived in a timely manner. The fried plantains were great and the shrimp creole wasn't bad either. I wish there were more Cuban crusine like this on the west coast. Ahh, c'est la vie.

Loved their vaca frita. Very latin style of course. I love the cortadito. I wish sometimes they can talk to us in english because no all my friends speak spanish.

  • Matthew A.

So, my first Cuban cuisine, and it was good. Had the sampler plate with picadillo, roast pork, white rice, plantain, tamale, yucca, croquette, and black beans. Got full, and all but the croquette and plantains made it in the box. Service was nice, atmosphere was nice, definitely a positive experience.

  • Corina B.

OK Cuban cuisine. The food taste good and the price is right. The service is good and the restaurant has a nice decor. Best fried plantains I've tasted! You can pass on the bread as it taste like regular toast with butter. Can't go wrong with the Palomino steak with beans & rice, and plantains...always yummy!

    (3)
  • Ranel C.

I grew up in Miami and I can say La Carreta is a classic. It is not great, but it is good, solid Cuban cuisine with no frills. The menu is standard Cuban fair, nothing more, nothing less. The atmosphere shows they are trying a little too hard but it's still a good effort. The service is typically very good. They also serve a great breakfast for about $3 including Cuban toast, coffee and eggs. If you go for dinner, try the steak milanese. And they do make their Mojitos strong so dont be afraid to let loose.

This place is my current obsession. My mother and I were running errands and just needed something quick to eat. We went to the cafecito side and got a tostada and a large cafe con leche for us to share. Big mistake! The coffee was so good we fought over how much we were drinking and the tostada was hot and crispy. My only complaint is there could be more butter on the tostada. This place has me dreaming about getting another coffee. I've also been here for the buffet and another time for lunch and the lunch was great.. I'm not a fan of buffets, but it was good.

I ordered dinner tonight for me and my husband and we are definitely disappointed over many points. The first problem is that everything was overcooked, the second is portion are incredibly small . the mash potato is a joke , a tiny boiled potato broken , no flavor no creamy , the bread was old the lemon was totally dry , The shrimp were decent in flavor but poor portion , the salmon was totally dry . It felt like we had a kids menu, we are hungry !!!! Will not come back .

LaCarreta 7/25/15 University & Pines , parking lot small spots narrow , large dinning room open air location with Cuban art work / photos, always seems clean & nice. Lighting pleasant, music very low to off, inside bar , inside bakery , out side caffacito window. Lots of big booths & tables, restrooms clean, & stocked . Waiters John was very friendly, I had stop having delivery (after 4pm)& coming to eat here, because I had been told one of my favorite dishes was no longer served. Pollo Carretero ( I/2 chicken white & dark ) / which is different from pollo a la Blancha ( all white) Well John ensured us they still had it , even went to back brought out a plate to show us. YES , & it was shown to me on the menu so this gringo could get his Cuban food fix back on. I have eaten La Carreta 8th st as long as I can remember & always find their food to be very good & consistent. I have eaten many Cuban spots Versalles , Rio Crystal, Chicos , LasVegas , Larios , etc , etc but La Carreta Black beans are some of the best. & yellow rice, Flan con Coco good. Palomia steak good - Welcome back my old friend. Cost $ 28 for 2 - plus tip, value level good Rating 9 of 10

This has been one of best restaurants I've reviewed on Yelp to this point. I wanted to hug Sonia, our server, on the way out because the service and food was so good. If you aren't sure what to get - order "The Classic". My first course was the avocado salad. The avocados were huge. I'm from Boston and we don't have avocados like that. They were very fresh. I ordered a guanabana shake with water instead of milk which makes it more juicy. I've had the fruit in Costa Rica, but never in a shake form. It was very good, not too sweet but sweet enough. My main course was "The Classic", cubano sampler platter. I could decide what to order so I went with that. The plantains were the best plantains I've ever had. The tamale was delicious, the pork was perfect. I can go on and on. For dessert I had a small Cafe Cubano, it was espresso sweetened. I little more sweet than I expected but good nonetheless. I wanted to order the Tocinillo de cielo but they had ran out. Our serve suggested Tres Leches instead. It was rich but not too sweet. It was a good substitution. I can't wait for the opportunity to dine here again!

4.5 stars I have been to this establishment on three occasions and each time the service, food and overall experience is great. I honestly cannot say anything bad about this place besides the fact that the bathrooms are not always the cleanest and because I like nice clean bathrooms just as most that's why they did not get five stars. I have had a variety of different food items and everything I have had was very good and well seasoned with a nice flavor. I love their plantain chip with the mojo sauce they are a must everytime I'm here. Last night for the first time I had the tostones with shrimp and pineapple app OMG good!! Still thinking about it nice balance of sweet and savory well seasoned and great texture contrast. As for service no complaints at all for me the staff is very attentive, warm and check on you often, but not overbearing. If you are looking for a good Cuban place in Broward check this place out.

I definitely agree with coming here once in a blue moon it has the Cuban flavors, however the customer service wait time before and after ordering is a bit annoying. I ordered the avocado stuffed with tuna and it was pretty good, my husband loves the Cuban Sandwich there. The few times I've gone has been full, although it was a holiday and they were opened that's was a big thumbs up on my end. Its a nice coincidence that Mickey Rourke and his wife were eating on the table next to us lol

What a great place. I took my son that came from nor cal to visit here. His First time eating cuban food. We both loved it. Ordered stuffed plantains and a cuban sandwich and pork chunks. Personally the pork was a little over cooked and needed more garlic. Ive been to many cuban restaurants this was a little dry. Still yet i loved it! Will definitely come back and their guave cheese cake to die for as well as the best rice pudding.

Love this place love this location! Cuban food at its best ! Fast service , flavor that melts in your mouth and Cuban toast for days !! Yum!! The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the fact that they always say the avacado salad is not in season !!! Really ppl . Food always comes out super fast .

There are much better places for Cuban food, but this will do if I don't feel like driving to Miami. Service was not great but not offensively bad either just okay, but to be fair it is always difficult to handle a big group. You have to have all or at least most of your party there to be seated. The food was ok. No one in my group was impressed but we weren't utterly disappointed either. The mango juice and coffee were good. My steak was ok, not as flavorful and juicy as I would like. The portion sizes for the sides are tiny. Overall, just an okay place to go to satisfy your Cuban food cravings.

We don't necessarily need an excuse to go to la Carreta! This is our go to place for comfort home cooked meal. I almost wished it had a cantina service.... I would totally sign up! The staff is nice and most of them are knowledgeable of the menu. Each week day they serve a different special dish/soup my favorite is Tuesday for fricase de pollo with some white rice and black beans ... Yum! The restaurant is family owned, which gives it a nice family feeling. On The weekends its breakfast buffet style until 11:45am a MUST TRY!

  • Erick R.

This is as close to a home cooked Cuban meal as you can get in Broward. The restaurant is very large, and the waitresses are very nice here. The service is fast and very friendly. We usually come here when the kitchen at home seems to stop working (laziness). Our 2 yr. old loves this place as well, she enjoys it better than other American Chain restaurants. The black beans here are FIRE! We also visit here on Sundays when they have a Breakfast Buffet setup from 8:00 to 11:30 for $11. Fried eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, liver (don't know what thats about??!!), pastries, etc.

We were very hungry and passed by this place. Place looks ok and the food was very good. We had chicken fricasse , masas de puerco with rice and tostones and coffees. Total was $28. Worth it. Service was great.

There was nothing I ate there that was not good! My favorite is the paella. And the garlic bread is great I usually get full just on that. Oh and not to mention the white bean soup.

Came here with my family and boyfriend. I ordered the ceviche and oxtail stew. Really good! The stew was a tad bit too salty for my taste, but the rice helps balance it out. Service lacks a bit but that could be because it was super busy.

Horrible service. Food was dry and no service. Very rude and discourteous. Worst experience of first time trying Cuban food. Very disappointed.

This Carreta is one of the least favorites, the food wasn't bad not the service but just not the same as Calle Ocho........

I can't say that I am a huge Cuban food fan; however, I decided to give this place a shot since it is convienently located. The food was good and probably a little above average. The portion size was actually pretty decent although they could have thrown in a few more plantains. How expensive are plantains? Probably not very. The waitress was nice and did tell the busboy (who was a grown woman) to refill my water glass each and every time it was empty. I passed on dessert although the key lime pie and chocolate cake were tempting... I wouldn't mind going back here and trying a different entree along with one of the desserts.

I've always had mixed feelings for La Carreta. That is due to to the inconsistency with service throughout Miami. When it comes to breakfast this is a good stop for those Cuban pastelitos y cafe con leche withdrawals - a quick fix. I dislike the fact that if you miss their breakfast buffet you are not even allowed to order breakfast items on their menu. You would either have to grab from their brunch buffet (costs more) or move on to their lunch menu items. It's not like I was missing out on much from their buffets because their food is always lukewarm, but it would be nice to be able to still choose from the menu. There's definitely better Carretas elsewhere but this is not one of them. What kept me from giving them 2 stars was my weakness for their pastelitos de carne and cafe con leche which is what I mainly consume from them anyways.

I'm so glad I found this spot after my appointment. I wanted a cuban sandwich and it hit the spot. I would make a few suggestions, adding some garlic and toasting the bread a bit more like a panini. The cheese danishes were delicious. I ate 2 while there and ordered one to go. If I'm in the neighborhood again, I will be sure to stop by again.

Sometime after arriving in Florida which is long after the long plane ride to my destination, I found myself starting to nod off thanks to the jet lag. My cousin, after entertaining my first demand of coffee, realized that I needed something much stronger and quickly took me here. So... as a n00b to this place and half tired and falling asleep, I felt like she had thrown me to the wolves of everyone chiming in for coffee and I had no idea what I was doing. Thankfully, two other patrons stepped in to help us out and I got my Café con Leche and she got her Cortadito. Both of them were delicious and well worth the wait. But the moral of the story is that if you're ordering from the to-go window, be swift. And do not leave your tired part members to fend for themselves while ordering.

Insert positive adjective here. Epic; this place is known for Cuban comfort food. Their recipes are simple: carb + protein + grease = delicious! I am biased as a fellow Cuban but I do not exaggerate when I say there is something on the menu for everyone. This location offers brunch on Sunday's, with a friendly atmosphere and classic decor. Unless the wait staff are rude, your experience will be awesome. Some of my favorites and recommendations include vaca frita, arroz imperial, boliche, and you can never go wrong with an espresso or cafe con leche con tostada.

YUM-MY! I had not tried Cuban food before this visit so I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the food. This restaurant prides itself on cooking Cuban food like your mother or grandmother would make. The menu contains much more than Cuban sandwiches and there are a lot of national specialties that are clearly marked so you can try them. We all shared appetizers and they were huge. They bring out bread and butter with the apps and it's clear the bread was made in-house that day. It was still warm! We all ordered entrees and they were enormous. I ordered some roasted chicken and really enjoyed it. The portion was definitely way too big and I ended up taking some home. The sides that came with the meal were also enormous, so there was really more than enough for everyone to share. Service was incredibly friendly, albeit a bit confusing since most of the staff only spoke Spanish. The place is quite large, can accommodate big groups and has a full-service bar near the entrance if you have only come to drink and share some appetizers.

I love the food. Never had a bad meal and the Platano soup is awesome my mom comes from Nyc to visit and it's the first place she wants to go. Love the masita de cerdo its a must you try this place.

Sometimes you need a Latin kick... Instead of going down into Miami, you can just swing over to University Drive and hit this place. Great variety of Cuban food, large portions, average taste, no real spicing since they have to please the masses.... including children. The place is clean, bathrooms are clean, staff is nice but they do rush you. They want you in and out..... Black beans could definitely use more spicing!

Looove coming here! Tastes just like what grandma used to make when I was a kid. If you want authentic cuban food just visit this place it's been around for decades! Everything is soooo good. My favorites: croquetas, pollo a la plancha, arroz imperial & ALL the desserts!

Good, but not great food. When it first opened, but has gone down over the years. The waiters aren't nearly as friendly, and the service is a bit slower.I think I'll pass.

Sorry that I have to let down La Carreta. Go for Sunday BRUNCH and is not the BRUNCH that I have experience from last year. To start I arrive first to secure a table for 10 people. Hostess said that when all the people arrive she will facilitate the table. 15 minutes later I have the clan together and approach the hostess and said we where ready. NOW she address a waiter to facilitate the table that took 20 minutes to prepare... Finally we are seated. We all got orange juice and the server later on brought Cuban coffee and milk from a hot pitcher. The Cuban bread with butter have to be reminded the waiter to bring it to the table, (Yes I know the place get jam pack and you have to wait). The quality of the food from my last experience have down graded, and to top it off run out of GUAVA PASTRY, that is hard to believe in LA CARRETA. For me this is the last time I will be eating brunch in La Carreta. What a disappointment and the PRICE when up too........

I love to go for Sunday's breakfast buffet with my husband and kids. The earlier you arrive the better since you skip the rush. Cafe con leche is great and the pancito is warm and delicious. The best parts of the buffet are the eggs, croquettes, and pastelitos!!!!

By far my favorite Cuban restaurant. Have had breakfast, lunch and dinner here during various trips to Hollywood. Portions are large, service very good and prices moderate. Large selection on menu. Reccommend the La Caretta breakfast with cafe con leche.

This place is a must for both latinos t gringos! Food is on point every time I have been there. It is one of the few places I have been that I can never finish the whole meal and I am a big dude. Every time we are in town we try to make a trip to one of their locations.

Called this morning to place a pickup order for 12:45. Ordered chicken chunks, fried yuca (amazing garlic cilantro sauce!!!) Fried fish chunks, pork chunks, caramel cheesecake that was to die for and crème brulé where the sugar was torched to crispy sweet perfection!!! I told them I was visiting a detention facility and needed lots of napkins, utensils and they even gave us paper plates!! The service was super fast. Food was hot. Delicious and far superseded my expectations. They are definitely doing it right at La Carreta! Will be going back often when we're in the neighborhood and recommending it to all my friends!!!

I have mix feelings for giving this La Carreta location 2 stars. First of, I must say that though I've had lunch and dinner in the past at this particular location, I'm only rating it for breakfast because breakfast is usually why I visit La Carreta for. Second, La Carreta (the one on SW 8th Street in Miami) is my favorite breakfast place. I since moved back to Hollywood, so by default, this particular La Carreta is the one closest to me. Third, I only go to breakfast on the weekends. And this is where the 2 stars come in.... I took my family on Sunday to eat breakfast at La Carreta. On the weekends, this location offers buffet style brunch. I particularly enjoy the Carretera Special for breakfast which goes for $5.95 as opposed to the brunch buffet that goes for $9.99. When I tried to order, the waitress said that they only offer the brunch buffet and we weren't allowed to order from the menu. So long story short, 2 stars since I can't order what I want and they are forcing patrons to eat the brunch buffet.

I just been there at the window to grab a cup of coffe and a pastelito. I am not a picky person and usually very patient however the service at the window is very slooooowww. The ladies that works there seem not too happy as they are also very rude. There was a client (lady) standing on the side talking to an elderly guy. I got there to the window about the same time as other guy. The guy made his order which took forever (he only order a coffee and a sandwich). When it came to my turn the lady fom Lacarreta simply ignored me and look at this lady who was talking on the side with the elderly guy and said who's next? She tottaly ignored me. I thought it was very rude and I didn't want to make a big case out of it and I just left. One thing is for sure, I am never going back there! I work very close and I used to go often grab breakfast for my co-workers. I told them what happened and they agreed that the service is really slow and the ladies who work there are very rude, especially with people who does not speak spanish. This is not the only Cuban restaurant in the area and I'll not miss it or it's food! Try La Guajira restaurant!!! Homemade cuban food, Good prices and good portions. The people who work there and the owners are super nice!!!

The food was okay. The bread was completely drenched in oil (and I mean COMPLETELY). The beans didn't have much flavor and the chicken was okay. I thought the "Avocado salad" was a rip off. You get four thin slices of avocado (not even one whole avocado) on top of some iceberg lettuce. All that for $4-something. The server was nice and pleasant but other than that... it was a very "meh" atmosphere and dinner.

This would be a four star, but the nearest Cuban place (that I've tried) with better food is in SoBe, and that's way out of the way. The service was quite splendid, something rare in South Florida. She was helpful and friendly. They even had someone running around refilling all the cups. Not once did I think "I'm thirsty!" because by the time I was 1/2 way down, someone was refilling it. The food, well, we ate way too much. But it was so worth it. All things considered, it was absolutely delicious. To top it off, quite cheap too. I'll be heading back when I'm in the area to try other items.

recently i was dinning here with my family, the place is always crazy busy as we walk to our table i almost slipped on the greasy floor while caring my son i told the waitress the floor is really slippery she just smiles and say "i know" im thinking wtf ok? so then we order, i ordered my daughter a cheeseburger which she loves but only took 2 bites so i ask her why arent u eating your food? she says daddy it dont taste good. so i closely exam the burger and its raw the meat was completely pink and cold i was pissed i told the waitress look at this burger would you eat this? and you serve this to my 4 yr old! she said omg and walked away. i took a picture of it before the waitress took the plate away and went to the manager to show him what is coming out of his kitchen. this man laughs yes LAUGHS! (LIKE IT WAS ALL A JOKE) i said to him does it look like im laughing my daughter ate some of this! so he tells me ohh we'll just take the burger off your bill. i told him so your gonna take the burger off the bill that my daughter didnt even eat thanks! seriously!? i should have walked out without paying anything. Also they walk around with a dessert tray and the waitress places it right next to my 1 1/2 yr old son in a high chair so of course he goes to grab for the desserts i tell the waitress my son is going to grab a piece of cake off your tray if you dont move it so she says to me if he touches it you pay for it.......... i said to her are you kidding me i wont be paying for anything why would you place that huge tray next to him hes a baby have common sense! (there was plenty of the room by the way to place the tray elsewhere it wasnt like that was only place to put it we were sitting in the corner at a big table! i will never return to this place! the staff is a joke, there serving uncooked/ unsafe meat and the food isnt euthentic cuban. if my daughter gets sick i will be sueing you! ( PIC OF THE FOOD THEY SERVED MY 4YR OLD ON MY PROFILE)

1.5 the half star is only because the food can be pretty decent.. I came in with a group of six, we ordered according to the special on the dry erase board....no issue right? Wrong. When the bill came the pricing for the corn stew was listed as one and the price on the bill was another. Well, they probably made a mistake on the pricing... We told the waitress about the mistake (one of my table mates happened to have taken a picture of the special to show the rest of us) she brought it to the manager... The fun started.. Apparently, the price on the board was wrong and we had to pay the correct price... Ok well, who's fault is that... OUR FAULT.... Yes, that's right.. The lovely geriatric manager came over to argue with the table about how we had to pay the full price because someone from the restaurant wrote the price down wrong... She finally got pissed, huffed and walked away... Way to go. You just lost a customer. Never again.

Cuban food is one of my favorite types of food & I've been coming to this location for well over 15 years. If you aren't looking it can easily be missed, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the busiest restaurants on a Friday night. I've been here for breakfast during the week which is ridiculously cheap. Mcdonalds is more expensive and you get more food at La Carreta. The service here is usually pretty good, and the food is even better. The location itself is very big so if you're waiting it's definitely not for long. The white rice is deliciously fresh and the croquettes are divine. The desserts are not my favorite but don't let that stray you. I do not recommend getting any soda, the cans are $2.00 EACH! If you want soda, ask for fountain soda (if it's not flat). I come here because I thoroughly enjoy the food and the environment. Anything I get here is fresh, delicious and flavorful. And the cortadito here is the best I've ever had. Weekend mornings they have a breakfast buffet for only $10.00 and you must check it out at least once. It's one of my favorites. All in all, la carreta is a great place to bring the family and have a great night out. The food is exceptional and the service is good, too. Enjoy!

My sons favorite love it here staff is friendly and I'm never disappointed with the food. The menu come translated in English and most of the servers are bilingual. I always seem to find great parking since they have there own parking lot. They have a quick cafeteria or I'd you would like a meal there is a full service restaurant. The cafeteria usually is very busy in the mornings and during lunch hour and only serves pastry, sandwiches and coffee. For the full dining experience you must go to the restaurant entrance, the wait is minimal if any.

Great food but one time I went there for Breakfast and they had a buffet. Sorry Im not into the whole going to a restaurant and pick out from a selection of food where everyone else picked from. Thats not exclusive to me. Who knows what the last customer did to that serving. I left immediatly after I discovered buffet breakfast. Dinner wise yes! awesome food!

While visiting MIA I was on a hunt for some good Cuban food and definitely found it at this place. The food is excellent! The portions are huge, so be prepared to eat. This place is also very easy on the pockets. You get a lot for your money. The staff is friendly. :)

Been eating here sporadically through the years when I'm in town. It's been a while since I was up in that area but decided to go back and check it out. Place was really great. All dishes were prepared simply and tasted excellent. I had pork in mojos sauce it was amazing including the Moros rice and plantains. It's simply rock solid Cuban place with authentic fare at reasonable prices. Although people seem to complain on yelp I always found service to be friendly and attentive and I'm a gringo and never had an issue with the wait staff being unable communicate with me. I can truly understand why this restaurant has been around so long and has such a loyal following. That being said I will always return to this place.

I grew tired of waiting for the Las Vegas Cuban Cuisine to open on University in my neighborhood and had a hankering for Cuban food so decided to try nearby La Carreta. Placed a to-go order at about 8:00 pm on Saturday night. When I pulled up the first thing I noticed is that the parking lot was packed. Thankfully a spot opened up just at the right moment. The food was ready when promised. For under $20 I got an empanizado (breaded steak), rice and beans, plantains and fried yuca. It was all pretty good. The steak was very tender and breaded/fried to perfection. I prefer the beans from Las Vegas. The best part of the yuca fries was the cilantro sauce it is served with. The plantains were alright though I had to pay for them as a side. The Cuban bread was very weird. It basically disintegrated when I chewed it and was soaked in oil. I hope Las Vegas opens soon!!!

I was very pleased with the food, service and the prices. I had the beef tongue with a side of rice and beans plus plantains the tongue was cooked perfectly, the sauce could have been a bit more tangy for my taste but still pretty good. Overall good meal for the price.

Muy bueno! The roasted pork with black rice and sweet plantain. I hope they have more variety of local/ethnic hot sauce to choose from, not just the plain old Tabasco. I tried Beef tongue stew too, ummm. I will enjoy it more if they offer the combo plate. I got three big pieces of sliced beef tongue. The flan is silky smooth, perfect with cuban coffee (less sugar will be better balanced.)

I have a strange addiction for Cuban food which lead me and some friends here. This place totally reminded me of a Cuban LaBamba. The first thing I want to point out is that this place was packed on a Friday night and the service was still on point. I don't think once my drink glass went empty. After looking at the menu I decided to get the roasted pork with moros and some ham croquettes. I wasn't a huge fan of the croquettes, they seemed to lack flavor and had a strange texture. Our food came out pretty faster after that which was nice when you're super hungry. My roasted pork looked like it was slopped on the plate and had huge amounts of fat on it. But I did enjoy the rice that it came with very much. I got to also try some of their mojo sauce which I found to be bland. My friends both enjoyed the meals they had, so maybe I just picked the wrong thing. Overall, I wasn't super disappointed but I wasn't super satisfied with my meal. I may come back and try something else.

I used to love La Carreta. For years it was my family's favorite latin restaurant. Lately the portions are smaller, the prices have increased and the waiters do not seem too eager to make the meal enjoyable. With so many other latino restaurants, you would think they would be aware of the competition being fierce now. I guess not!

Was staying with some friends nearby and they insisted on going here, and we soon found out why. This place is great, especially when you're hungover and want a filling breakfast. We split a bunch of guava and cheese pastries, ham and cheese empanadas, and potato croquettes. Everything was delicious and we came back here 2 days later. Coffee is very good too and wakes you right up. I would highly recommend this place if you're in south Florida and want some great Cuban food!
